ROBERT E. TRUSKOWSKI, FASLA

ROBERT E. TRUSKOWSKI, FASLA, has designed landscape architectural projects from Austria to the Antilles, and has gained an international reputation for creative excellence.  His firm, Robert E. Truskowski, Inc., founded in 1971 with offices in Laguna Beach and Santa Barbara, California and in Palm Beach, Florida, offers complete landscape architectural design and planning services.  The firm specializes in estate garden development and historic garden restoration worldwide.

Robert E. Truskowski is currently working on projects from Shanghai to the Seychelles, and has worked on projects in the Middle East since the 1980s. Truskowski projects have spanned the creative spectrum from re-designing and restoring the historic gardens of a castle in Austria to developing gardens for a contemporary beachfront residence designed by Tadao Ando. For an estate on the Red Sea, he designed a shark lagoon with a full complement of local aquatic life.

Characterized not only by the diversity of locales, but by the variety of garden styles, his practice encompasses designing landscapes from the ground up, ranging from formal and traditional to contemporary designs, and from Mediterranean to tropical gardens. Working with an international team of architects, consultants and contractors, Robert E. Truskowski has brought his experience and expertise to complex projects around the world.  Known for his innovative and creative design solutions, Truskowski has designed water features, unique specialty gardens, gardens incorporating rare specimen collections, and vertical gardens.  (Patrick Blanc of France has called Truskowski the “father of vertical gardens.”)  Robert also held a co-patent on Seashore Paspalum grass which is used in warm climates throughout the world.

A project in the south of France served as the cover feature for Gardens of the French Riviera by Louisa Jones and this garden was given National Landmark status by the French government.  The firm has received design awards for a wide range of projects and several have been featured on garden tours in the United States; e.g., the Robinson Gardens tour in Beverly Hills, the Parrish Art Museum tour in the Hamptons and the Southampton Garden Tour.

Robert E. Truskowski was honored by being elevated to a Fellow by the American Society of Landscape Architects.  This honor, given only to a select few in his profession, designates him as a landscape architect who has made an outstanding contribution to his profession through his excellence in landscape design. Robert E. Truskowski was also selected as one of three internationally-known design landscape architects to design an “area of the world” garden for the Naples Botanical Gardens renovation, and he is the designer of several of the largest estates on Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach, Florida. His clients consider his gardens “timeless” because after they are designed and implemented they “seem to have been in place always.”

Truskowski projects have garnered awards and international recognition and have been featured in many publications including Architectural Digest, Veranda, Landscape Architecture Magazine, Town and Country, House and Garden, New York Times Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Miami Herald, and The Robb Report articles including “Top Twelve Landscape Architects in the World…” and  “Best of the Best Landscape Architects …”

Robert E. Truskowski holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Design with a major in Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic, Pomona, (one of his professors was Richard Neutra).  He did his continuing education in programs from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, and he served on the curriculum committee for the UCLA Landscape Architectural Program. Robert E. Truskowski was given the 2014 Stars of Design Award for Landscape Architecture, and he recently gave a presentation on his worldwide projects at the Design Leadership Summit at the United Nations.
